In every culture and tradition, be it of anywhere in the world, one person that commands tremendous respect in the society is, a teacher. If you have read anything about Hindu culture, you will know that teachers are more revered than parents. Though parents are the first teachers of a child, the education imparted by teachers right from kinder-garden up to graduation plays a vital role in shaping the future of the child. A teacher can play many roles in a child's life. He or she can be a mentor, guide, friend, or a philosopher for the child. The contribution of teachers in every phase of child development is immeasurable.

The major facets in child development are physical, mental, educational, social, moral and spiritual. You can note that depending on the family status, kids development varies. Family consisting of a mother, a father, siblings and elderly people is the best environment for the development of a child. But a few families have single mother or father. As such, the child doesn't get the attention that he or she can get. In some families, both the parents are working, while in other families, either the mother is working or the father. This may devoid the child of proper attention and he or she may feel lonely. But on the other hand, as the child grows, the family status may also motivate him or her. Some parents' job may require them to stay away from their home for a few days. In such a situation, it is possible that the child becomes cranky. His or her development suffer from a negative impact and the child may avoid participating in education, sport, and extra-curricular activities.

Teachers are the first one who introduce alphabets and numbers to children. They become a friend of children and teach them in a playful manner. They help each and every child to learn at his or her own pace. Besides alphabets and numbers, these teaching professional also train children on music, dance, and social skills. Teachers also suggest if the child needs any special assistance regarding speech or hearing issue. They do role-play with the kids which give them a friendly environment to express themselves. Teachers arrange stage performances for kids and this enhances their stage confidence.

Elementary school teachers teach students about history, geography, civics, etc., which help kids learn about world around them as well as about their origin and nation. They teach kids about personal hygiene and good habits. They make kids do science experiments and work with them on different such experiments. Thus, they generate interest about science in kids. Teachers as a mentor time to time update kids about the various competitions and stage performances and provide necessary transport or interactive help from the school.

A child at this stage is only a few steps ahead of becoming a fully grown individual. Teachers take a role of their friend and guide them in subjects like mathematics, physics, chemistry. They direct them about books to refer and use them for practicing. Also, teachers teach critical and difficult topics repeatedly to weak students and bring up the best in them. You can note teachers are good counselors; they talk to kids involved in bullying activities and assist them to come out of it. Teachers often give helping hand in learning all indoor and outdoor games by advising kids about balancing sport and studies.

As the child grows up he or she needs complete philosopher who can assess them thoroughly and advice them about the career path they should follow. After sixteen years of age, boys and girls start thinking about settling down with appropriate career, they often get confused about selecting a career for them. Teachers often guide them by giving proper input about entrance tests and IQ tests relent to their intelligence level and interests which can channelize them to think about proper career and take efforts accordingly. 

So you record that teacher is the one who plays an inevitable role in overall development of child. They contribute in child development throughout different stages the child goes during his or her education. They direct, demonstrate, communicate and advice for the betterment of the child. Sometimes, teachers are a friend, a guide, and a mentor.
